EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapy approach that helps people heal from distressing or overwhelming experiences. Sometimes, when something painful happens, our brains don’t fully process it the way they’re meant to. Instead, the memory can get “stuck,” showing up as triggers, intense emotions, or negative beliefs about ourselves.
EMDR works by gently guiding your brain to reprocess these memories so they no longer feel as heavy or overwhelming. This is often done through eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation (like tapping or sounds) while focusing on the memory in a safe and supported way. Over time, the memory becomes less distressing, and you may notice yourself feeling calmer, more resilient, and more present in your life.
